The PowerShot S20 is equipped with a 3.34 megapixel 1/1.8" Charge-Coupled Device (CCD). Captured images feature a high resolution of up to 2, 048 x 1, 536 pixels. Similar to PowerShot S10 an advanced Digital Signal Processing IC that is capable of both high-speed processing and high image quality is built in PowerShot S20. The combination of this IC with buffer memory achieves a shutter interval of approximately 2.2 seconds (when using the optical viewfinder), even for high-resolution images. Images are stored on rewritable CompactFlash TM (CF) cards. The CF card slot of the PowerShot S20 supports both Type I and Type II CF cards. A 16MB CF card is bundled with PowerShot S20.
