A Brief History of Sharp

Sharp Corporation is a multinational national Japanese electronic company that manufactures different electronic and high-tech products for different consumers. It was founded in 1912 and is currently headquartered in Osaka, Japan. Sharp got its name from one of its earliest invention; Ever-Sharp Mechanical Pencil. This pencil was invented by Tokuji Hayakawa in 1915. Sharp is considered to be one of the most valuable brands in the world for electronic products. Sharp is also residing in the list of World’s top 20 Semiconductor Leaders. It is also a sponsor of a famous football club; Manchester United. After a major earthquake in 1923, it restarted its business as a radio manufacturer in Osaka and soon it started manufacturing TV and other devices like calculators etc. Sharp started its production of TV in 1953. Today it manufactures LCD TV and Plasma TV as well. In 1973, Sharp introduced its first LCD calculator. It then produced many handheld devices like mobile phones, PDAs, digital diaries etc. Sharp developed its first camera phone in November 2000. Another interesting invention from Sharp is the Humanoid Robot which was developed in 2006. This humanoid robot is capable of clearing dishes from the table and putting in dish water. Sharp has more than 47,000 employees worldwide and it has made many subsidiaries and most of the regional subsidiaries do their business under the name of Sharp Electronics.
