A Brief History of Sony

Sony Corporation, founded in 1946, is a Japanese corporation headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. Sony is considered to be one of the world’s largest multinational and multimedia companies with revenue of $70.303 billion (2007). It is the leading manufactures of different electronic and IT products like laptops, home appliances, gaming consoles, TV including Plasma TV and LCD TV, Computer hardware etc. Sony is widely recognized for its famous gaming products; Playstation consoles. Its products are targeted for local consumer as well as profession markets. Sony is engaged in different product domains like Games, Entertainment, Financial Services, Electronics and few others. All of these products make Sony one of the leading electronic and entertainment products manufacturers. Its business is done through different ventures and subsidiaries; Sony Computer Entertainment, Sony Ericsson, Sony Financial Holdings, Sony Picture Entertainment etc. After its foundation in 1946, it started manufacturing and exporting different telecommunication devices like transistor radio. One of the biggest successes in the history of Sony was by the introduction of its gaming console; Playstation or PS 1 in 1994. After the success of PS 1, it launched PS 2 in 2000 which turned out to be a bigger success as compared to PS 1. In 2005, Sony started manufacturing portable games usually called as PSP (Play Station Portable). It introduced PS 3 in 2006 which uses Blue–ray disks. Recently in 2007, Sony unleashed an egg-shaped digital robotic music player which comes with color lights in it and provides excellent features including Bluetooth etc.
